Complete Eye Examinations

Windham Eye Group physicians provide a full range of services to meet your eye care needs. This includes Vision Screening, complete eye examinations, care for medical conditions, as well glasses and contact lenses for vision correction.

We recommend complete eye examinations on a regular basis as a part of your complete medical care. The frequency of examinations is based on a patient’s age, eye health, general health condition and family history.

Your eye examination will consist of a thorough evaluation of your vision and ocular health. This usually includes refraction and a dilated eye exam. Our physicians and technicians screen for conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, macular degeneration and eye conditions caused by diabetes and high blood pressure.

During a complete eye evaluation, you will usually frequently be in the office for more than an hour. Some patients are very sensitive to being dilated, so you will need to allow enough time for your examination. Also, some patients may need to arrange transportation after an examination.

Please feel free to discuss your needs with our staff.

Medical and Routine Examinations

During the span of your life, the care of your eyes will include Routine Vision and Medical exams

Cataract Surgery

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens, which is clear when healthy. The lens is located inside the eye, behind the iris (the colored part of the eye). The lens’ job is to focus light rays for clear vision. Over time, the lens can become clouded.

Fortunately, cataracts are highly treatable, through an outpatient surgical procedure. One tiny incision is used both for the removal of the old lens and the placement of the new one. Because the incision is so small, stitches are not typically required.

Premium Lens Implants

Our surgeons perform cataract surgery utilizing:

Monofocal Lenses which provide excellent vision for distance or near (but not both).

Multifocal Lenses which can provide distance and near vision, reducing your need for eyeglasses.

Toric Lenses are designed for people with astigmatism. Our physicians do not use these lenses, but can evaluate the appropriateness of this lens for a patient and can refer you to a nearby ophthalmologist who specializes in the use of this type of lens..

Glaucoma is a condition that results in damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve carries visual information from the eye to the brain, and as it is damaged, vision is lost. Glaucoma usually develops gradually, often without any other symptoms, and because of this, vision loss can be significant before glaucoma is detected.

Excellent treatments are available for glaucoma. Treatment is aimed at lowering the pressure in the eye. Pressure control is usually achieved with medications or laser therapy.

Dry Eyes

Dry eyes is a common condition that occurs when your tears aren’t able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. A patient may have an inadequate amount of tears or our tears may be poor quality.

A stinging, burning or scratchy sensation in your eyes

Sensitivity to light

Eye redness

A sensation of having something in your eyes

Difficulty wearing contact lenses

Watery eyes

Blurred vision or eye fatigue

See your doctor if you’ve had prolonged signs and symptoms of dry eyes, including red, irritated, tired or painful eyes. Your doctor can take steps to determine what’s bothering your eyes or refer you to a specialist.
